Welcome to the Ivory Tower, a home for the depressed, the crazed and the incredibly gifted. It is a sanctuary for children who are broken and scared and really have no where else to go. They range form age 11 to 17, girls and boys alike. Some go through therapy, some are medicated and watched constantly. It depends on the child, on the situation. Some stay at the Ivory Tower for a few months, some for a year, some until they age out at 18. The Ivory Tower is really not about the healing, it’s just there as a home. Because some people… well they just can’t be fixed. But at least for a while they could have a home and something close to a family. For a while.

Scrapbooks

They’re not all just pictures of the children and their families. Some don’t want to remember times like that. The children are given magazines and miscellaneous photographs too, so pictures of themselves are placed next to photos of cats or cars or giraffes.

the commons

A large room near the dorm halls where all the children can intermingle, perhaps before bed. There are couches and bookshelves stacked with various books. The books fro the library manage to find their way onto these shelves and vice versa. The floor is carpeted and it is a nice room, cozy and comfortable.

aedicule hall

All the dorm rooms for the girls ages 11 to 14 are located on this hall. Many are single dorm rooms but some can accommodate 2 or 3 girls. Behavior and risk factors will determine which girl or girls get which room. Curfew for these residents is 9:30, when a bed check will be made and certain rooms (again depending on behavior and risk factors) will be locked. There is a large bathroom with several shower stalls in the center of the hall for obvious purposes. There are no bathrooms in the individual dorm rooms.

the cafeteria

The children eat breakfast, lunch and dinner here. Some are monitored if they have a record of causing trouble, food fights, the like. The food is actually rather good and there are always a few choices. A sandwich or a salad is always a default for lunch or dinner and for breakfast there is always a variety of cereal. The larger tables seat about 8 people, the smaller ones seat 4. The children are left to chose their own seating arrangements and thus there are always a few off by themselves.

the theatre

The Ivory Tower theatre is rather small, seating perhaps 300 people (all children of course) in a variety of risers and on the floor. The stage is perhaps only a foot or so above the ground and the residents put on a variety of sort plays, some music shows, some dance shows, all sorts of stuff like that. Assemblies are held in here as well because the room can hold all the students at once.
00
[ ]
the library

The library is a large maze like room of bookshelves, arm chairs, tables and desks and the like. The large windows let the light in and it is said that at one point this room was one of two chapels in the castle. (the other is in tact and used for it’s intended purpose) Children who have good behavior are allowed to use this room as they wish. There is no formal checkout system and all the books are deemed appropriate for all ages. There are very few horror stories or novels with death and sadness. There are quite a few pictures books, fantasy novels, cheerful books, and plenty of nonfiction. Many books make it out of the library and to various other shelves scattered about the building, but no one seems to mind.

the art room

The Art room is rather large and always smells of paint or clay or something of that nature. There is a door that leads directly to a little walled in courtyard that very nice to paint in on warm days. Art therapy takes place in this room, but some of the gifted artists spend additional time in here. There is always a staff artist nearby, and art is always encouraged.

the music hall

The music rooms are all rather small and cramped. A few of the rooms don’t have any doors so the music always spills out into the hall but the children who frequent this hall tend to like that.
00
[ ]
the gym

The gym isn’t really what one thinks of when one thinks of a gym. The room has been gutted, all the stone covered in blue padding, the floor and several feet up the walls. There is a few small trampolines, a basketball hoop, and a little area where a child could jump off a spring board and into large contained area of padding. There are several objects that look vaguely like large, oddly shaped blocks that a three year old might play with, are scattered about. They can be used to make a fortress or an obstacle course. The whole rooms looks sort of like something for a preschool. Safety is preferred over all else.
00
[ ]
dance room

For all the dancers in the Ivory Tower, the room is not as big as some of the others, but it’s big enough. Mirrors line one wall completely, the dance floor covers the wood and stone, and there’s always music playing.
00
[ ]
the hallways

The east wing hallways are often rather traffic busy, with children coming form meals, to their arts classes and such. The residents seem to like this hall better, it is always busy and lets them forget for a moment all the harshness of their situation.
00
the west wing
[ ]
the entrance hall

This is the main room into which everyone enters when first arriving at the Ivory Tower. It is at the very center of everything. The entrance hall is a very large empty room and rather intimidating for small children first coming to the castle.
00
[ ]
group therapy

As a large room with several chairs arranged in a circle, it doesn’t seem particularly intimidating. But many children fear this room, preferring to keep all their troubles inside where no one else can find them. However it is required for all children to attend a therapy session at least twice a week. For some, they must attend more often.

the class rooms

There is a long hallway with several class rooms, separated by subject and skill level rather then age. All the residents are required to spend at least 4 hours a day ‘at school’. The curriculum is very loose and based mostly around what the students want to learn. There are many group activities to keep things interactive and encourage socialization.
00
[ ]
the resident lounge

Much like the commons near the dorm rooms, this room is large and comforting. There are many games in here as well, board games and card games. Electronics are kept out of the Ivory Tower, weather they be televisions or computers, or anything else. There are large piles of stuffed animals as well, several assortments of toys such as dolls, action figures and model cars. Like many other aspects of the Tower, it seems like it would be better fit in a place for younger children.
00
[ ]
the hallways

The west wing hallways are less busy then the east wing hallways. And the residents are much quieter in this end of the building.

the north tower

A large, imposing structure, it is said this is where the term Ivory Tower came from. It is near the dorm rooms, connected through a series of hallways and stairs. There is no rule expressly forbidding students form venturing up these stairs to the closed in room at the top, but many avoid it.

the south tower

A much smaller tower that no doubt had a purpose in the art of war long ago. It is more inhabited then the north tower and children have been known to venture up the stairs for the wonderful view of the grounds, The art classes have been known to paint up here every so often.

the princess’s tower

This tower feeds to romanticism in every young girl. It is the thinnest and the tallest of the towers, piercing the sky like some sort of needle. It is said that there was once a princess who was locked in this tower like all of the story books. Only her prince charming never reached her and she was forgotten, left to die in the tower all alone. It is avoided by residents and staff alike because of the stories about the princess’s ghost walking around the top tower room.

This is the smaller of the two courtyards, off on the east end of the castle. It is a small enclosed space with several stone benches and a tree in the center. It is a nice place to be on warmer days.
00

the center courtyard

This is the larger of the two courtyards and in the center of the castle, on the other side of the entrance hall. There is a stone fountain in the center and several overhangs off the side of the castle. It opens up onto the laws and is a short walk away form the flower garden.
00
[ ]
the flower garden

Off to the side of the castle, the flower garden is rather large and gives life to a large amount of flowers in a variety of colors and kinds. It is said that a long ago King order the flower garden be made for his young daughter. Whether or not it’s true, it’s a nice story.

the walls

Should a child have the privilege of roaming the outdoors, they are often watched very closely. The large, smooth stones walls prevent escapes and give the whole place the air of a prison of sorts.

The front gate where the main road leads up to the castle is a very frightening sort of structure, all cold metal woven into itself. It is of course locked at all times to keep children form escaping.
